Strategic Collaboration Aims to Drive Growth of and Access to Recycled Fibres

Mumbai, October 29, 2024:Circ, a US-based textile-to-textile recycling innovator, and Birla Cellulose, the cellulosic fibers division of the Aditya Birla Group and one of the world’s top producers of Man-Made Cellulosic Fibre (MMCF) through its flagship company Grasim Industries Limited, have announced a long-term strategic partnership aimed at speeding up the expansion of fiber recycling in the textile industry.

This innovative partnership suggests that Birla Cellulose buy up to 5,000 tons of Circ’s pulp annually from Circ’s first commercial-scale operation for a duration of five years. By turning this pulp into lyocell staple fiber, Circ will be able to expand its commercial production and greatly improve access to recycled resources.

“Our collaboration with Birla Cellulose, a top manufacturer of MMCFs worldwide, is noteworthy because it shows the industry’s dedication to investing in a truly circular economy and Circ’s continuous progress towards scalability,” said Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ. “By working together, we can integrate recycled materials into textiles on a global scale and build a more sustainable fashion future.”

“This partnership reflects our deep commitment to environmental stewardship and represents a crucial step in advancing innovation within the textile industry,” stated Dr. Aspi Patel, Chief Technology Officer of Grasim Industries Limited. We are greatly increasing the possibility of a really circular economy by fusing our cellulosic fibers with Circ’s state-of-the-art recycling technology.”

The supply chain will be crucial in meeting demand as eco-friendly products become more and more important to customers and companies. The collaboration between Birla Cellulose and Circ serves as an example of how important teamwork is to successfully scaling recycling programs. Because the demand for recycled materials is greater than the supply, Birla Cellulose is prepared to purchase and use Circ pulp, guaranteeing that its clients will have access to premium recycled Circ Lyocell.
