Bharat Tex 2026, India’s flagship global textile exhibition, was inaugurated by Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Organised by the Bharat Tex Trade Federation (BTTF) with support from the Ministry of Textiles, the four-day event has brought together more than 6,000 buyers from over 130 countries, over 1.3 lakh trade visitors, and thousands of exhibitors across 1.6 million sq. ft. of exhibition space, reaffirming India’s position as a global sourcing and manufacturing hub.
The inauguration was attended by Union Minister of State for Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles Ms. Neelam Shami Rao, senior government officials, partner state representatives, global buyers, exporters, investors and industry leaders. Ministerial delegations from Russia and New Zealand also participated, highlighting Bharat Tex’s growing importance as an international platform for trade and policy dialogue.
Eight sponsor states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, along with nine participating states and Union Territories, are showcasing their textile capabilities, investment opportunities and policy initiatives. Dedicated State Investor Connect Sessions are being held throughout the event to strengthen collaboration between governments and industry while promoting PM MITRA Parks and other textile infrastructure initiatives.
The exhibition showcases India’s complete textile value chain, covering fibres, yarns, fabrics, apparel, home textiles, technical textiles, handlooms, handicrafts, machinery and ancillary industries. International exhibitors from 14 countries, alongside representatives from the United Nations and the European Union, are participating, supported by leading industry sponsors including Trident, Vardhman Textiles, RSWM, Shahi Exports, Colorjet, Arvind, PDS Limited and Sattva.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Giriraj Singh said, “The world doesn’t just need a supplier – it needs a reliable partner with innovation at scale. From sustainable and circular fibres to smart manufacturing and technical textiles, India is leading the future of textiles.” He highlighted the development of seven PM MITRA Mega Textile Parks, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the SAMARTH programme as key initiatives strengthening India’s textile manufacturing ecosystem.
Shri Pabitra Margherita, Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles, emphasised the growing opportunities for Indian textile exports, particularly to the European Union, while highlighting the untapped potential of India’s Northeast for natural fibres such as Eri, Muga and Mulberry silk. Ms. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, stated, “The world no longer just sources from India, increasingly, the world chooses to partner with India,” while outlining the Ministry’s Vision 2030 target of achieving USD 100 billion in textile exports.
A major highlight of the inauguration was the exchange of a Letter of Intent between the Bharat Tex Trade Federation and Première Vision Paris to strengthen India-Europe collaboration in innovation, sustainability, design, export promotion and global market access. The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for Indian manufacturers, MSMEs and designers to connect with leading international buyers and fashion houses.
Over the next four days, Bharat Tex 2026 will host more than 100 knowledge sessions, over 4,000 curated B2B meetings, more than 100 B2G meetings, and the signing of over 30 MoUs covering trade, investment, technology, sustainability and market access. The event will also feature the CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2026 and digital business platforms designed to facilitate buyer-seller matchmaking and business networking.
