Behno, a company known for its gorgeous bags, entered the fashion market eight years ago with the intention of dispelling the misconceptions the world at the time held about domestic manufacturing companies. Behno has been proudly advancing the “Made in India” ethos ever since. Behno, which translates to “sisters” in Hindi, offers a variety of statement pieces that elevate your ensemble from ordinary to spectacular in addition to setting a new sustainable standard for production in the sector by redefining how craftsmen are perceived, used, and treated.
This New York-based firm is currently moving from one fashion hub to another after showcasing its first ready-to-wear collection in Mumbai in February 2015. “We had never given India’s domestic distribution any thought until approximately two years ago, when we were in a team meeting and were aware of the significant level of consumer interaction we were experiencing there. An in-depth analysis led us to the conclusion that it was time to see what an Indian expansion looked like; a “Made in
India” brand had to be accessible to the Indian market, so in a sense, Behno “came home” this year,” says Shivam Punjya, the label’s founder and creative director, when asked what led him to decide to make Behno available in India.
