During Paris Couture Week, Gaurav Gupta’s ‘Aarohanam’ collection featured a black and white gown that the actor wore while attending the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Aditi Rao Hydari’s appearance stayed intriguing among a flurry of contentious clothing even if she may not have performed her now-viral Gajagamini walk from Heeramandi on the Cannes red carpet this year. Designer Gaurav Gupta created a unique black and white outfit for the actor.
Hydari was joined on the L’Amour Ouf red carpet at the festival by stars Aja Naomi King and Katherine Langford, who are also members of the L’Oréal Paris family. The dress worn by Hydari was a part of Gaurav Gupta’s ‘Aarohanam’ Spring 2024 collection, which was on display at Paris Couture Week. It had an elegant dress made of black velvet with striking ivory side curtains. Her graceful figure gained a hint of ethereal drama from the billowing curtains, which resembled clouds.
The dress is representative of the idea of kundalini, the coiled serpent that lies dormant at the base of our spines until it is awakened by intense meditation and intention, much like a snake’s journey as it loses its old skin to emerge anew, reborn. The color black is a metaphor for anything that is completely empty. The collection’s silhouettes manipulate volume to depict a flame’s fluttering dance as it climbs and falls into boundless space.
Elton Fernandez added little makeup to Hydari’s appearance, which was styled by Sanam Ratansi and highlighted her inherent beauty. She accessorized the gown with matching rings and bold pearl earrings embellished with gold accents to finish the ensemble.
Gaurav Gupta, who is renowned for his sculpted designs, creates a unique appearance at every angle that he takes with his gown. Rather than the design’s flamboyant red side curtains, Hydari went for a more understated yet stylish option that perfectly reflected her own style. The billowy white curtains created the illusion of clouds, giving her appearance a hint of mystery and inspiring social media enthusiasts to compare her to the legendary Audrey Hepburn.
