On the occasion of World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, the Authentication Solution Providers’ Association emphasised the critical role of authentication and traceability technologies in addressing the growing challenge of counterfeit products and strengthening trust across supply chains.

For nearly three decades, ASPA has worked to raise awareness about the risks associated with counterfeiting while advocating advanced authentication and traceability solutions that help protect consumers, brands, and businesses. Today, ASPA’s member companies collectively support thousands of brands worldwide through physical, digital, and phygital verification technologies designed to enhance product authenticity and supply chain transparency.

Counterfeit goods continue to impact multiple sectors, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, FMCG, automotive components, consumer durables, and industrial products. Beyond economic losses, counterfeit products pose significant threats to consumer safety, public health, and brand reputation.

Highlighting the scale of the issue, findings from the CRISIL-ASPA State of Counterfeiting in India 2025 Report revealed that 89% of surveyed consumers had purchased a counterfeit product at least once. The study, conducted by CRISIL Intelligence across 1,639 respondents in nine Indian cities, also found that consumers believe nearly 29% of products available in local markets are counterfeit.

Commenting on the findings, Ankit Gupta said that the survey underscores the urgent need for wider adoption of authentication and traceability solutions. He noted that embedding product verification, transparency, and trust into supply chains is essential to protecting consumers, strengthening brand integrity, and creating a safer marketplace.

Over the years, ASPA has contributed to the anti-counterfeiting ecosystem through industry research, awareness initiatives, policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge-sharing programmes. The association continues to collaborate with industry leaders and policymakers to encourage the implementation of best practices and advanced anti-counterfeiting technologies.

As part of its ongoing efforts, ASPA announced that it will soon bring together stakeholders from industry, government, technology, and academia at the next edition of its flagship Traceability & Authentication Forum (TAF), which will focus on building trusted products and transparent supply chains.

Reiterating its commitment on World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, ASPA emphasised that tackling counterfeiting requires collective action and that authentication and traceability technologies will play a vital role in building safer, more transparent, and trustworthy marketplaces.
