Asos and Boohoo, two major fashion retailers, are turning to nearby sourcing options like Turkey, Morocco, and the UK in response to ongoing attacks on container ships in the Red Sea and Suez Canal. These attacks have led to rerouting of shipments, causing longer lead times and higher shipping costs from Asia.
While Asos still ships certain products from Asia to Europe via the Suez Canal for efficiency, it has increased sourcing from nearby regions for faster deliveries. Asos maintains regular communication with Maersk, its logistics partner, to manage any delays effectively.
To adapt to the situation, Asos plans to consider longer lead times in future purchases and has contingency measures in place for short-term delays. Other retailers, including Poundland, Next, Matalan, and Ikea, are also monitoring the situation and ensuring sufficient stock to mitigate supply chain disruptions.
