– India needs to capitalize RMG exports growth momentum to expand its global share and enter new markets: Chairman AEPC
Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman of AEPC, responded to the 12.9% gain in apparel exports in December 2024 by saying, “Despite global unrest and muted demand from major markets, apparel exports have been registering a robust growth for the last six months.” India needs to take advantage of this chance now and pick up speed in order to increase its global presence and penetrate new markets. The upcoming Bharat Tex 2025 will offer a fantastic chance to establish new commercial relationships and alliances, which will support the industry’s further growth.
In addition to industry-friendly government regulations, Chairman AEPC stated that the long-term outlook for Indian garment exports is still favorable, mostly due to increased product acceptability, factories’ attention on compliance, and their capacity to adjust to shifting consumer preferences.
In comparison to December 2023, RMG exports for December 2024 grew by 12.9%. RMG exports totaled USD 11316.2 million from April to December 2024–2025, an increase of 11.6% over the same period in 2023–2024.
Additionally, according to Shri Sekhri, we grew by 14.3% in the USA, 8.1% in the UK, 9% in Germany, 20.7% in Spain, and 33.6% in the Netherlands between April 24 and November 25. India’s FTA markets for apparel exports are also performing well; exports to Korea, Japan, Australia, and Mauritius have increased by 22.7%, 9%, 9.8%, and 16.6%, respectively.
The next Bharat Tex will provide the industry with a platform that will facilitate excellent cooperation, broaden sourcing networks, and encourage foreign direct investment (FDI) in India. According to Shri Sekhri, the Bharat Tex Expo will offer a dynamic overview of the textile sector and highlight the convergence of innovation, sustainability, and global branding for expansion.
