– Apparel exports outshine despite lingering slowdown and inflation: Chairman AEPC

Despite the global downturn and ongoing inflationary pressure, India’s RMG exports have outperformed, according to AEPC Chairman Shri Sudhir Sekhri, who spoke about the remarkable rise in RMG exports. Even the largest exporting nations saw a decline in RMG export growth, and the World Trade Organization reduced its growth forecast for the global merchandise trade from 3.3% to 3% in 2025.

“India is uniquely positioned with low import intensity, the entire ecosystem from fiber to fashion, both in cotton and MMF, and an abundant and youthful labor force, so we can do much better,” the Chairman of the AEPC added. The RMG industry is important to the Indian economy because it offers the fastest potential for creating jobs for the poor and unskilled with little training.

In addition to hosting Bharat Tex once more in 2025, we will be taking part in other significant international fairs this year. In preparation for Bharat Tex 2025, we had roundtable discussions with purchasing consultants and international companies. The fact that so many buying agents and consultants attended the roundtables showed that they were eager to build closer ties with the Indian exporting community. As we continue to interact, we expect that this connection will only get stronger, said Chairman AEPC.

Additionally, AEPC will be showcasing the finest in commerce, technology, and history this month by holding international roadshows in Spain and New York. By demonstrating its enormous potential in innovation, technology, and sustainable practices, the roadshows will establish India as a major worldwide center for textiles.

According to AEPC Secretary General Shri Mithileshwar Thakur, “Indian apparel exports are currently on a high growth trajectory.” Despite geopolitical issues and the resulting supply chain interruptions, we have begun to unlock the potential and have seen double-digit increase in RMG exports in recent months. India is undoubtedly gaining international notice and is now being seen as a top location for sourcing.
