Cape Town Fashion Week (CTFW), held from November 29th to 30th, 2024, was a resounding success, thanks to the efforts of Africa Fashion International (AFI). The event, held at the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse, was transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity, showcasing the best of African design, art, music, and entertainment.

A Focus on Sustainability and Innovation

This year’s theme, “FAME,” emphasised sustainability and innovation. The runway shows were held outdoors, taking advantage of natural daylight to minimise energy consumption. Additionally, designers like Craig Jacobs showcased zero-waste collections, aligning with the industry’s growing focus on eco-friendly practices.

Celebrating African Heritage and Talent

One of the highlights of CTFW was the collaboration between AFI and renowned Ndebele artist, Dr. Esther Mahlangu. Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux, graced the runway in a stunning gown inspired by Mahlangu’s iconic artwork. This fusion of traditional art and contemporary fashion paid homage to South Africa’s rich cultural heritage.

AFI’s in-house brand, AFI Privé, also made a significant impact, showcasing collections by talented designers like Loice Dube, Keneuoe Mhletswa, Thulani Mlambo, and Thapelo Mokobane.

Expanding the Reach of African Fashion

AFI’s commitment to making African luxury fashion accessible led to the launch of the House of Nala Premium Pop-Up Store at the One&Only Cape Town Resort. This initiative brings together a curated selection of affordable luxury African fashion brands, making them available to a wider audience.

A Bright Future for African Fashion

Cape Town Fashion Week 2024 was a testament to the growing influence of African fashion on the global stage. By prioritising sustainability, innovation, and cultural heritage, AFI continues to elevate the continent’s creative industry and inspire future generations of designers.
