Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal revealed at the India International Footwear Fair over the weekend that the government soon wants to release a footwear sizing chart created for the Indian market and plans to improve India’s standing in the international footwear market.

At the show, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said: “Indian size of footwear will be launched soon to help distinguish Indian footwear around the world and reduce dependence on foreign sizing trends.”

According to World Footwear, the IIFF 2023 took place at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from July 26 to July 29. The seventh iteration of the trade fair, which was put on by the India Trade Promotion Organisation to connect manufacturers with wholesalers and retailers, emphasised market trends. The trade fair included, among other product categories, footwear, materials, chemicals, and machines.

India is the third-largest exporter of saddlery and harness, the fourth-largest exporter of leather goods, and the second-largest exporter of leather clothing in the world, according to Goyal. Goyal also emphasised the value of the leather and footwear industries in creating jobs in India, where the sector now employs over 4.5 million people, about 40% of whom are women.
