A workshop on “Volunteering for Ullas” is organized by the Ministry of Education.

Today, students from Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) under the NCTE participated in a virtual session on “Volunteering for Ullas,” which was facilitated by Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education. The goal of the session was to encourage youth volunteerism from TEIs in order to fulfill the NEP 2020’s commitment to full literacy across India. Attending the meeting were Smt. Preeti Meena, Director of DoSE&L, Prof. Pankaj Arora, Chairperson of the NCTE, Ms. Kesang Y. Sherpa, Member Secretary of the NCTE, and Smt. Archana Sharma Awasthi, Joint Secretary of DoSE&L.

In his speech to the TEI students and instructors, Shri Sanjay Kumar stressed the importance of uniting to give particular focus to advancing literacy in all spheres of society throughout the nation. He urged that the gift of literacy be extended to the illiterate members of our community. He went on to say that teachers and administrators at their institutions had to assist and mentor their students when they register on the ULLAS App.

ULLAS: Nav Bharat Literacy Programme workshop agenda was provided by Smt. Archana Sharma Awasthi, who also encouraged teachers and students to participate in the program for community service and involvement.

Professor Pankaj Arora emphasized that the National Council for Teacher Education is totally dedicated to attaining the objective of “Jan Jan Saakshar” in order to fulfill the dream of Viksit Bharat.

Presenting on the topic of Teacher Education Institutions’ Role in ULLAS was Ms. Kesang Y. Sherpa. During her presentation on NCTE’s role in the ULLAS implementation, she emphasized that, starting in the academic session 2023–24, all Teacher Education Institutions were instructed by NCTE to introduce 8–10 students to the ULLAS initiative and encourage them to volunteer as teachers and support the cause of nation building. She further mentioned that by actively participating in ULLAS-New India Literacy Programme (NILP), NSS, and other community-related events, students can earn two credits for community engagement and service.

Smt. Preeti Meena presented a thorough overview of Ullas, including the procedures for implementing Ullas in TEIs.More than 18,000 TEIs, faculty and student-teachers were inducted during the session.
