Molteni&C Opens New Flagship Store in Sydney
The new two-storey, 760-square-metre showroom in Surry Hills brings Italian furniture, kitchen designs and contemporary living to the Australian market.
Italian luxury furniture brand Molteni&C has opened its new flagship store in Sydney. The launch marks an important step in the brand’s growth across Australia. The store will operate directly under Molteni Australia Pty Ltd.
Sydney now joins Molteni&C’s global network of directly operated stores. This network also includes London, Paris, Doha, New York, Washington D.C., Miami, Lyon and Melbourne. Through these locations, the brand continues to promote Italian design, quality and craftsmanship.
A Heritage Building in Sydney’s Creative District
The new flagship store is located at 532 Riley Street in Surry Hills. It occupies a two-storey heritage building that dates back to the 1890s. The showroom covers 760 square metres. The building was once home to the well-known Sydney restaurant Porteño.
Surry Hills is known for its mix of architecture, fashion, hospitality and contemporary culture. Therefore, it offers a fitting setting for Molteni&C’s design vision. The brand brings Italian craftsmanship and modern living to this creative neighbourhood.
A central glass atrium connects the two floors. It also allows natural light to flow through the interiors. As the sunlight changes during the day, shifting shadows and the colours of the Australian sky add a local character to the space.
An Interior Inspired by an Art Collector’s Home
The store reflects the 10-year creative direction of Vincent Van Duysen. Instead of a conventional retail layout, he has imagined the space as an “art collector’s house”. Here, architecture, furniture and art come together.
Light tones, travertine and pale timber create a calm setting. In addition, richly textured fabrics and the Arial wall panelling system add warmth and depth.
The showroom also features works by leading architects and designers. These include Vincent Van Duysen, Herzog & de Meuron, Foster + Partners, Jean Nouvel and Christophe Delcourt.
Showcasing the Outdoor and Indoor Collections
The Outdoor Collection welcomes visitors at the main entrance. The display features the Sway sofa and coffee tables by Yabu Pushelberg. It also includes the Petalo armchair and Picea by Vincent Van Duysen.
Further inside, visitors can explore the Boboli armchair and Sofa Around the Fairmont wood table. Both pieces are designed by Vincent Van Duysen. The Indoor Collection continues with the modular Augusto sofa and Louisa coffee tables. The display also features the Continuum armchair by Gio Ponti from the Molteni&C Heritage Collection.
A sculptural Intersection kitchen island in natural stone forms another focal point. Nearby, the Filigree table and Chelsea chairs by Rodolfo Dordoni complete the setting.
Other living and dining displays feature the Turner modular sofa by Hannes Wettstein. The space also includes the Odile and Lea coffee tables, along with the Lia armchair by Christophe Delcourt. In the dining area, the Lise table by Christophe Delcourt sits alongside Monk chairs. Afra and Tobia Scarpa designed these chairs in 1973, and Molteni&C reintroduced them for the 2025 Collection.
Exploring the Night Collection and Kitchen Designs
The Night Collection features the Tibeau bed and bench by Danish design duo GamFratesi. Fonte and Lea side tables complete the display. Nearby, the walk-in closet features the Gliss Master System with the Meridian Glass Door.
Visitors can also discover the Baltimora Island by Matteo Nunziati. The display pairs it with the Fonte table and D.151.4 armchairs by Gio Ponti.
On the first floor, the Hi-Line 6 Kitchen combines a Super White marble island worktop with Sunrise Oak columns. Next to it, the living area features the Cleo sofa and the 45° and Pannacotta coffee tables by Ron Gilad. The Elain armchair by Vincent Van Duysen completes this setting.
Another kitchen display presents Ratio by Vincent Van Duysen. Its design combines Lunar tall units with dark elm operational columns and internal Wing shelves. Meanwhile, Stripe base and wall units add a sense of lightness. A marble countertop and backsplash bring natural warmth to the dark elm island fronts. The dining area features the Arc Table by Foster + Partners, paired with Outline chairs.
Furniture and Design Across the First Floor
The first floor also includes a dining area with the Asterias table and Glove Up chairs by Patricia Urquiola. The Paul angular sofa adds to this welcoming setting.
Another living space features the Marteen Sofa by Vincent Van Duysen. This multifunctional design combines seating and storage. It sits alongside the Regent coffee table and D.154.2 armchair by Gio Ponti, both part of the Molteni&C collection and heritage range respectively.
The Night Collection continues with the Ribbon bed by Vincent Van Duysen. It is paired with the Anton bench, Aster side table and 5050 bedside table. The closet area features the Gliss Master System with the Glass and Bamboo Door. Finally, the Cinnamoon armchair by Naoto Fukasawa and Hector Mirror complete the setting.
The new Sydney flagship store brings together Molteni&C’s furniture, kitchen and wardrobe collections. Overall, the showroom offers an immersive view of the brand’s Italian craftsmanship and contemporary design. It also strengthens Molteni&C’s presence in the Australian market.
