Circ Partners with Huafon to Scale Textile Recycling in China
Circ® has partnered with Huafon, a leading Chinese spandex producer, to develop and expand a multi-phase textile-to-textile recycling facility in China. Announced on 8 October 2026, the partnership marks a step forward in Circ’s global expansion and its efforts to scale textile recycling.
The proposed facility will be located within Huafon’s industrial network. It will use Circ’s patented technology to process discarded polycotton fabrics and recover materials for new textile production. These include recycled purified terephthalic acid (PTA), recycled monoethylene glycol (MEG) and recycled cellulosic pulp.
Phase 1 is designed to process approximately 200 metric tonnes of textile waste per day. Further capacity is planned in subsequent phases.
Combining Recycling Technology with Industrial Expertise
The partnership brings together Circ’s textile recycling technology and Huafon’s manufacturing expertise, infrastructure and market presence in China. In addition, Huafon will invest directly in the project alongside Circ and other selected investors.
Huafon’s experience in engineering, procurement, logistics and commercial operations is expected to support efficient industrial development. Meanwhile, Circ will contribute its established network of global brands, textile manufacturers and downstream customers to help bring the recovered materials into the supply chain.
“China is at the center of global textile production, making it a critical location for scaling textileto-textile recycling. Huafon brings the industrial capabilities, experience, and investment to move quickly and build a platform that can scale well beyond this first site,” said Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ.
Huafon’s Experience in Advanced Materials
Huafon is one of China’s leading chemical and advanced materials companies. It is also among the world’s largest spandex producers, with more than 30 years of experience in materials technology, innovation and chemical manufacturing.
Furthermore, the company has expanded its international presence in advanced and sustainable materials. Its acquisition of DuPont’s former biomaterials business, now Covation Biomaterials, established operations in Newark, Delaware, and Kinston, North Carolina. The acquisition also strengthened Huafon’s global customer base and commercial relationships beyond China.
“Circ has developed one of the most promising textile-to-textile recycling technologies we have seen, and Huafon is ready to help bring it to market. By combining Circ’s innovation with our industrial strength and investment, we can turn textile waste into high-quality materials at a scale the industry needs.” said Feifeng You, Vice President, Huafon Group, and Chairman, Huafon Microfibre Shanghai Tech Co. Ltd.
Supporting China’s Circular Economy Goals
The project aligns with China’s wider industrial priorities. The country’s 15th Five-Year Plan emphasises circular-economy development, improved waste recovery and reuse, and greater use of high-quality recycled materials. It also supports green manufacturing and lower-carbon production.
In addition, China’s materials strategy prioritises advanced polymers, high-performance fibres and bio-based materials. These focus areas complement Circ and Huafon’s ambitions to expand circular textile production.
As the project develops, both companies plan to engage brands, supply-chain partners and downstream buyers. Future opportunities include additional production capacity and wider commercial activity.
Ultimately, the partnership aims to establish a long-term platform for circular textile production that serves China and international markets.
