Ebix Supports Digital Insurance Passport Initiative at GIFT City
Ebix has brought its insurance technology expertise to an industry initiative exploring the future of customer-controlled insurance data. The initiative focused on creating a digital insurance passport that could give customers greater access to and control over their insurance information.
The project, titled “The Insurance Passport for the Customer,” was developed as a Capstone project under the Insurtech Professional Program (IPP). GIFT International FinTech Institute (GIFT iFi) and NeoProEd jointly run the programme. Participating teams presented their final solutions at the NeoProEd Insurance Conclave 2026 in GIFT City on September 26.
Ebix Brings Technology Expertise
Ahead of the final presentations, Ebix’s technology team held a dedicated virtual guidance session for the participating teams. The team shared practical insights from Ebix’s insurance technology platforms, including PlacingHub, ExposureHub and EbixONE.
The session focused on key technology areas. These included data flows, API design, interoperability, consent architecture and security. The guidance also helped teams assess how their ideas could move from concepts to workable solutions.
Exploring a Customer-Controlled Insurance Passport
The Capstone addressed an important challenge for the insurance sector. Customers often manage multiple policies, products and insurers. As a result, accessing and managing insurance information can become difficult.
The participating teams explored a digital insurance passport as a possible solution. The proposed interface could bring together key information in one place. This could include:
- Active insurance policies
- Coverage gaps
- Upcoming renewals
- Nominee details
- Claims history
- Unused benefits
The concept also included a consent layer. This would support secure data sharing across the insurance ecosystem while aligning with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and the Account Aggregator framework.
Focus on Interoperability and Security
Gagan Sethi, CEO, Ebix Technologies, said, “Insurance is increasingly becoming a connected, data-driven ecosystem, but the ability to move information securely and meaningfully across stakeholders while keeping customers in control remains an important part of that evolution. Our engagement with the teams gave us an opportunity to bring a practical technology perspective to this challenge, particularly around interoperability, consent and security. The quality of thinking we saw demonstrated the potential for technology and industry collaboration to address some of the more complex challenges facing insurance.”
The teams presented their final solutions to a joint faculty panel from IPP and GIFT iFi. The panel assessed the projects across several areas. These included solution quality, user experience, business and regulatory feasibility, customer journey, pilot readiness and presentation quality.
Industry and Emerging Talent Collaborate
The initiative also highlighted the role of industry participation in developing new insurance technology capabilities.
Yashesh Sampat, Co-Founder, NeoProEd, said, “The Insurance Passport project brought together technology, regulation and customer experience around a question that will become increasingly important as insurance becomes more connected. Having Ebix contribute its technology and implementation perspective helped the teams think beyond the concept and consider how interoperability, consent and security would work in practice. This kind of engagement between industry and emerging talent is central to building capabilities for the next phase of India’s insurance ecosystem.”
The collaboration comes as GIFT City continues to develop as a centre for insurance, reinsurance and fintech activity. At the same time, digital infrastructure and technology are becoming increasingly important to India’s insurance sector.
Ebix’s participation adds to its wider engagement with India’s insurance technology market. Its digital platforms also reflect the company’s focus on technology-led solutions for the insurance and financial services industries.
