ASICS unveils GEL-LYTE III 07 REMASTERED to honour Shigeyuki Mitsui
ASICS SportStyle has introduced the GEL-LYTE™ III 07 REMASTERED, a special edition sneaker celebrating the 35th anniversary of the iconic silhouette while marking the retirement of its original designer, Shigeyuki Mitsui.
Inspired by the Japanese wordplay where “35” is pronounced san-go, meaning “coral”, the sneaker features a coral-themed design symbolising growth, longevity and the enduring relationship between the GEL-LYTE III and its global community. The inspiration also references Japan’s tradition of celebrating the 35th wedding anniversary as the “coral wedding”.
Reflecting on the milestone, Mitsui said the design represents both his appreciation for coral and his gratitude to the community that has supported the GEL-LYTE III over the past three decades.
Remaining true to the original creative process, Mitsui personally selected the vibrant orange and cream colour palette using traditional paint, just as he did for the original 1990 release. He also guided the inclusion of semi-transparent monomesh details to evoke the feel of the coral sea.
Developed alongside ASICS’ new generation of designers, the GEL-LYTE III 07 REMASTERED serves as a bridge between the brand’s heritage and future. As part of his legacy, Mitsui has also left behind an archive of 1,000 GEL-LYTE III designs to inspire future collections.
The limited-edition release comes with coral-inspired packaging and a personal note from Mitsui, commemorating his final official contribution to the brand.
The ASICS GEL-LYTE™ III 07 REMASTERED will be available from 7 August 2026 via the official ASICS India website, the ASICS store at DLF Mall of India and Limited Edt, priced at ₹16,999.
