Arpita Mehta Debuts ‘Ceremonial’ at India Couture Week 2026
Designer Arpita Mehta unveiled her debut couture collection, Ceremonial, at Hyundai India Couture Week 2026, presented in association with Nexxus New York, marking a significant milestone in her design journey. The showcase celebrated India’s rich textile heritage through contemporary couture, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern silhouettes and immersive storytelling.
For over a decade, Arpita Mehta has been known for her vibrant aesthetic and intricate craftsmanship. With Ceremonial, she reinterpreted India’s celebrated textile traditions as living crafts that continue to evolve, reflecting the changing nature of modern celebrations and the individuality of today’s women.
The collection featured iconic Indian textiles including Bandhani, Banarasi and tissue fabrics, while introducing Kantha embroidery into the designer’s couture vocabulary for the first time. Signature mirror work was combined with vintage-inspired gemstone embroidery to create richly textured garments that balanced heritage with contemporary design.
The runway showcased sculpted lehengas, fluid saris, corseted blouses, contemporary drapes and occasion separates designed for women who embrace both tradition and individuality. A colour palette of coconut, rose tan, sage, seafoam and teal gradually transitioned into rich violet and sindoor red, enhancing the collection’s timeless appeal.
The presentation extended beyond fashion through an immersive set conceived by creative show director Pranav Goswamy, inspired by members-only lounges of the 1970s and 1980s. Featuring Indo-European furniture, layered textiles, brass accents, suede, velvet and fringe detailing, the setting recreated an intimate and nostalgic atmosphere that reflected the brand’s visual identity.
In collaboration with Jaipur Rugs, the runway incorporated richly textured rugs inspired by vintage Turkish and Persian interiors, complemented by earthy tones, ambient lighting and custom fringe lamps to create a warm and immersive environment.
The soundtrack further enhanced the experience by blending contemporary house music with subtle influences from iconic Bollywood sounds of the 1970s and 1980s, reinforcing the collection’s dialogue between tradition and modernity.
Speaking about her debut couture showcase, Arpita Mehta said, “Presenting Ceremonial at India Couture Week was a very special milestone for us. The collection came from a desire to celebrate Indian textile heritage as something living and evolving rather than something preserved in time. Every craft, every silhouette and every detail was designed to reflect the way women celebrate today—rooted in tradition but deeply personal in expression. Seeing that entire world come together on the runway, from the collection to the immersive set and music, was incredibly fulfilling, and I’m grateful to FDCI and everyone who helped bring this vision to life.”
The showcase was complemented by jewellery from Jatin Mor, the official jewellery partner, and presented in association with Bergner.
