SVPISTM Wins National Sustainability Honour at Bharat Tex 2026; Kasturi Fashion Showcase Draws Global Appreciation

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM), Coimbatore, has been recognised with the “Best Academic Institution – Educational Contribution to Textile and Clothing Sustainability” at the CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2026, presented during Bharat Tex 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The award was presented to Dr. Biswaranjan Ghosh, Director, SVPISTM, by Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, in the presence of senior Ministry of Textiles officials, global industry leaders and international delegates.

The national recognition acknowledges SVPISTM’s continued contribution to sustainable textile education through industry-oriented academic programmes, research, innovation, skill development and strong collaboration with the textile and apparel industry. The honour also highlights the institute’s growing role in supporting India’s vision of building a globally competitive and environmentally responsible textile ecosystem.

Adding to the institute’s achievements, SVPISTM presented the “Kasturi Fashion Showcase – From Farm to Fashion”, one of the key highlights of Bharat Tex 2026. The showcase traced the journey of Kasturi Cotton, India’s premium branded cotton, from cultivation to contemporary fashion, demonstrating sustainable agriculture, advanced textile manufacturing, apparel design and value-added production.

The curated collection celebrated India’s cotton heritage while showcasing how innovation, circularity and sustainable fashion are shaping the future of the textile and apparel industry. Hon’ble Union Minister for Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh appreciated the creativity and commitment displayed by the students during the fashion showcase, which also received positive response from policymakers, international buyers, manufacturers, researchers and fashion professionals attending the global textile event.

Further adding to the institute’s success, S. Harish, a third-year BBA student at SVPISTM, received the Special Recognition Award in the Low-Cost Product Development category at Sanrachna 2026, organised during Bharat Tex 2026, for his innovation in nonwoven product development.

The twin achievements of receiving a national sustainability honour and presenting a widely acclaimed fashion showcase reinforce SVPISTM’s position as a leading institution in textile education, sustainability and innovation. The recognition further strengthens its commitment to developing skilled professionals who will contribute to the sustainable growth of India’s textile and apparel sector.
