L’Oréal India has inaugurated its largest Beauty Skilling Centre in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), marking a major step in its ongoing commitment to skills development, women’s empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods under its flagship Beauty for a Better Life programme.
Spanning 4,267 sq. ft. at CII’s North Mumbai Skill Centre, the facility is designed to train approximately 3,000 individuals annually in professional hairdressing, makeup artistry, and beauty services. The initiative is supported through collaborations with NGOs and the salon industry, offering structured training, career guidance, job placement support, and trainer development.
The launch also coincides with the release of L’Oréal India’s first Socio-Economic Impact Study, which highlights the company’s deep integration into India’s economy and its contribution to employment generation and industry growth.
The study reveals a strong job multiplier effect, stating that “Every single direct job at L’Oréal India supports 39.5 additional jobs across the wider value chain, actively sustaining 90,500 jobs nationwide spanning logistics, packaging, raw material sourcing, and retail.” It also notes that “95% of L’Oréal products sold domestically are manufactured locally at its state-of-the-art facilities in Chakan (Maharashtra) and Baddi (Himachal Pradesh).”
Further, the report highlights the brand’s global manufacturing presence and role in the professional beauty sector, including its contribution to salon networks and workforce development.
On the social impact front, the company has delivered large-scale upskilling outcomes, with “Over the last decade, L’Oréal has upskilled 3.3 million hairdressers and supported 42,000 women through its Beauty for a Better Life program. Today, approximately 60% of top stylists in India are women—a testament to L’Oréal’s commitment to diversity and gender equality.”
A PwC Impact Study (2025) further underscores the effectiveness of these initiatives, noting a “25x Social Return on Investment (SROI).” Additionally, beneficiaries report “an average 44% increase in monthly household income, moving entire families toward sustainable financial independence.”
