LANXESS has strengthened its sustainability credentials with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its calcium sulfate anhydrite binder CAB 30 and its application in conventional calcium sulfate screeds. Issued by the Institute Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU), the EPDs validate the binder’s low carbon footprint, minimal emissions and compliance with stringent building biology standards.
Designed for eco-efficient construction, CAB 30 is a low-emission, building biology-tested binder that meets DIN EN 13454 standards. Independent emission testing confirms compliance with the German AgBB health assessment requirements, as well as Belgian VOC regulations. The binder has also achieved France’s “Emissions dans l’air intérieur A+” rating, indicating very low indoor air emissions, even when used with LANXESS additives such as Mebonit pro or Mebofix pro. These credentials make CAB 30 eligible for eco-labelling and suitable for green building projects.
Calcium sulfate screeds produced using CAB 30 offer several advantages over traditional cement-based screeds. They can be applied over large surfaces without joints or reinforcement, improving efficiency on site. The LANXESS-developed additive Mebofix pro further enhances performance by significantly reducing water demand and accelerating drying times. Lower water consumption not only speeds up construction schedules but also improves the screed’s compressive, flexural and surface strength, resulting in a more robust and durable floor system with an improved emissions profile.
EPDs play an increasingly critical role in sustainable construction by providing transparent, science-based data on the environmental impact of building materials across their life cycle. For architects, engineers and developers, such declarations support informed material selection, enable comparability and contribute to green building certifications. With EPDs now in place for CAB 30, LANXESS reinforces its position as a supplier of construction materials aligned with high eco-efficiency and sustainability requirements.
