National Textiles Ministers Conference Concludes in Guwahati

The National Textiles Ministers Conference concluded in Guwahati after two days of detailed discussions focused on strengthening India’s textile ecosystem through innovation, sustainability, heritage conservation, and export growth. Ministers and senior officials from States and Union Territories participated in the deliberations.

Addressing the conference, Minister of State Pabitra Margherita highlighted the depth of discussions across key areas of the textile sector. He expressed confidence that the outcomes would help shape a clear policy roadmap to support India’s vision of becoming a global textile hub.

On the second day, discussions centred on export expansion, competitiveness, and branding of Textiles of India. Centre-State dialogues examined strategies to enhance competitiveness and align efforts toward achieving textile exports worth USD 100 billion by 2030.

Another important session focused on traditional textiles, handlooms, and handicrafts. Participants emphasised the need to preserve India’s textile heritage while improving market access, value addition, branding, and sustainable livelihoods for artisans and weavers. The discussions highlighted the role of design innovation, digital platforms, and scheme convergence in boosting income generation.

Senior officials and Ministers also stressed stronger collaboration between the Centre and States. States were encouraged to leverage flagship Ministry of Textiles schemes covering infrastructure development, technology upgradation, and sustainability initiatives.

Overall, the two-day Centre-State dialogue marked a key step toward policy alignment, investment promotion, and the holistic development of India’s textile sector.
