Outlast Technologies GmbH has received the WTiN Innovate Textile Award 2025 in the Material Innovation category for Aersulate®, its aerogel-infused insulation technology. The award recognises outstanding achievements in advanced material development and textile innovation.
A Breakthrough in Thermal Insulation Technology
Aersulate® represents a major advancement in thermal insulation. The technology integrates aerogel, a highly porous material that efficiently traps air. This structure delivers exceptional thermal performance at extremely low weight and minimal thickness.
In Aersulate® wadding, aerogel accounts for approximately 50 percent of the material volume. This composition enables superior insulation without adding bulk, making it suitable for space-constrained applications.
Consistent Performance Under Demanding Conditions
Aersulate® fabrics and waddings maintain nearly full performance even under compression and high humidity. Unlike conventional insulation materials, they provide reliable thermal comfort in challenging environments.
The minimal space requirement opens new application possibilities that were previously unfeasible. As a result, Aersulate® offers consistent performance wherever durability, comfort, and insulation stability are essential.
Broad Market Applications Across Multiple Segments
Outlast is positioning Aersulate® for wide market adoption across several high-value segments.
“We will deploy our Aersulate® fabrics and waddings across multiple high-value product segments including bedding, safety equipment, footwear, and apparel. Our goal is clear: to establish Aersulate® as a scalable performance solution with broad market applicability wherever thermal management, comfort, and lightweight insulation make the difference,” said Martin Bentz, CEO of Outlast Technologies GmbH.
Overcoming the Complexity of Aerogel Integration
Reflecting on the award, Bentz highlighted the challenges of working with aerogel. The material is extremely lightweight and highly fragile, which makes processing and stabilisation difficult.
Transforming aerogel into scalable and durable textile structures requires deep material expertise and precision engineering. Outlast has developed these capabilities through sustained research and long-term innovation efforts.
“Winning this award makes us genuinely proud. It is a strong recognition of our work and a clear confirmation that we are on the right path with innovative insulation solutions like Aersulate® solutions that resonate with market needs and set new standards for performance,” Bentz added.
