A Festive Fusion of Fitness and Culture
Zydus Pinkathon, India’s biggest women’s run, celebrated the festive spirit of Diwali with the Diwali Pahat Saree Run at Mumbai’s Worli Promenade. Over 100 women, dressed in colourful sarees, joined Pinkathon Founder Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar, Founder of Invincible Women, for a 5KM run that blended celebration, culture, and fitness.
The event began with an energetic Zumba session that lifted everyone’s spirits. Soon after, participants took to the promenade, embracing both tradition and health. Moreover, this initiative is one of several activities leading up to the 10th Zydus Mumbai Pinkathon, which will take place on December 21, 2025, at the MMRDA Grounds, BKC.
Promoting Inclusivity and Wellness
Speaking at the event, Milind Soman said:
“We’re here today for the Diwali Pahat Saree Run to celebrate Diwali in a healthy and fit way. From the beginning, Pinkathon has believed in inclusivity. Many women are more comfortable running in sarees than in shorts or tights, so we said the clothes you wear should never stop you from fitness.”
He added that the saree run, which began years ago, is now a proud part of Pinkathon. As a result, many women who started with small runs now complete marathons of 50 and even 100 kilometres.
Celebrating Health and Awareness
The Diwali Pahat Saree Run highlights how culture and health can coexist harmoniously. Furthermore, it reinforces that fitness can be celebrated in any attire.
As part of the build-up to the Mumbai Pinkathon, the event also spreads awareness about women’s health. It aligns with Zydus Lifesciences’ “Easiest Exam” campaign, which encourages monthly self-breast exams for early detection of breast cancer.
Empowering Women Everywhere
Sharing her thoughts, Ankita Konwar said:
“Running in a saree with so many women this morning shows that women can do anything we set our minds to. Our history is filled with women who changed society, and that spirit continues today. Pinkathon has always been about inclusivity, and the Zydus partnership shares that same vision.”
Her words inspired many participants to continue their fitness journey with confidence and pride.
A Decade of Empowerment
Since its inception in 2012, Pinkathon has grown into a nationwide movement promoting women’s health and empowerment. With over half a million participants, it has conducted free breast screenings, raised ₹1 crore for underprivileged patients, and created a 300-city ambassador network.
Through initiatives like the Saree Run, Babywearing Mothers’ Walk, and Cancer Shero Walk, Pinkathon continues to redefine women’s fitness as inclusive, safe, and empowering. Ultimately, Zydus and Pinkathon remain united in their mission to inspire women to take charge of their health and embrace an active lifestyle.
