Allbirds Launches Remix Shoes From Recycled Waste

Allbirds has unveiled its latest sustainable innovation, Remix, a footwear collection created in collaboration with Blumaka and Circ. The collection transforms manufacturing waste—including foam scraps and blended textiles—into high-performance shoes, redefining how the industry addresses waste.

Every year, footwear production generates vast amounts of unused materials, particularly midsole foam, which largely ends up in landfills. The industry discards 344,000 tons of foam annually—enough for 2.5 billion midsoles—posing long-term environmental risks. Allbirds, Blumaka, and Circ have intervened with a groundbreaking approach, repurposing this waste into two new models: the Runner NZ Remix and the Cruiser Remix.

Blumaka’s midsoles, made from reclaimed foam, cut water use by 99 percent and carbon emissions by 65 percent compared to traditional production, while still offering durability, comfort, and cushioning. Meanwhile, Circ’s textile-to-textile recycling technology repurposes polycotton waste into high-quality fibers, producing fabrics with a premium look and feel that rival virgin materials.

The result is a fresh, stylish collection that combines sustainability with uncompromised performance. Adrian Nyman, Chief Design Officer at Allbirds, explained, “To us, ‘better things in a better way’ means that we’re not tied to one technology or one method of making–we have a limitless curiosity that inspires us to explore unexpected approaches. Remix is the next step in our innovation journey, delivering on sustainable design that enhances both look and feel.”

This launch continues Allbirds’ legacy of eco-driven design, following projects such as Futurecraft.Footprint with Adidas and M0.0NSHOT Zero, the world’s first net-zero carbon shoe.

Remix styles, priced at $140 USD, are available in U.S. and U.K. stores and online starting August 19, 2025, in full and half sizes for women (5–11) and men (7–14).

Hear from partners:
Stuart Jenkins, CEO of Blumaka, stated, “Allbirds is demonstrating that the world doesn’t need more foam — it needs smarter use of existing resources. We don’t recycle trash — we reclaim the most advanced foam ever made and improve upon it… Better for people. Better for the planet.”

Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ, added, “This collaboration with Allbirds marks a major milestone in proving that textile-to-textile recycling can scale beyond apparel and into high-performance footwear… This is the future of fashion, and we’re proud to help lead the way.”
