The biggest architectural colour system in the world, Asian Paints Chromacosm, has been launched by Asian Paints, a major provider of paint and colour technology worldwide. With more than 5,300 distinct colours, it is poised to transform how designers, architects, and other professionals interact with colour.
Asian Paints has partnered with famous artist and architect Suchi Reddy, who founded the Reddymade studio in New York and is recognized for her creative and human-centered approach to design, to commemorate the debut of Chromacosm. Reddy and Asian Paints collaborated to design and produce an art installation that perfectly captures her vision of Chromacosm, an artistic investigation of the limitless realm of color.
A sequence of rods in this eye-catching piece indicate a totality of color as they change from black to vibrant color. This work, which was inspired by a dimensional color research, offers spectators a deep investigation of the potential of Chromacosm by turning color into a physical 3D experience. After being launched at a press conference on December 17, 2024, Reddy’s installation will be open to the public from January 9–12, 2025, during the Architecture and Design Film Festival at NCPA, Mumbai. Through the prism of traditional artisan techniques, Asian Paints has been recording color in India for more than ten years through still photography, oral narrative, and film. Asian Paints has been inspired by the beautiful work of craftsmen and the daily lives of the Indian people, from the vibrant maroons of Kalamkari to the deep indigos of Ajrakh. Chromacosm the Installation – A note from the Artist, Suchi Reddy
Inspired by ancient tantric paintings, Chromacosm is a three-dimensional meditation on color that takes visitors on an immersive voyage into the universe of color. The installation alludes to the merging of all colors, which became black when painted and white when exposed to light. Here, the observer is given the opportunity to stroll through and around a forest of vertical reeds, taking in more than 2000 different hues that gradually fade back to black.
