Keep yourself with what works when it comes to fashion
Fashion in India is vibrant and diverse, just like our culture. Be it a business meeting, casual outing, or a social ceremony, men have a wide array of styles and norms to consider. However, many men do not invest adequate time in carving out a fashion identity for themselves. Here are five dos and don’ts to help them with their fashion choices by Chetan Siyal, CMO of Snitch.
- Invest in Tailored Clothes
Do: Always opt for well-fitted clothes, whether it’s a suit, casual shirt, or denim jacket. Tailored clothes are for your unique physique and give you a more polished look for the occasion.
Don’t: Avoid wearing overly loose or tight clothing. Bad fitting is uncomfortable and looks sloppy.
- Mix Traditional and Modern Styles
Do: Be creative and try out different blends of traditional Indian wear with Western elements. For instance, you can pair a Modi jacket with a pair of jeans and a casual shirt or pick cargo pants with loafers to give you a contemporary and stylish look.
Don’t: Too many clashing patterns or colors are always clumsy and unflattering. While mixing colors and styles, pay attention to harmony. Remember, excess of anything is always bad.
Pay Attention to Footwear
Do: Footwear is a slightly neglected part of men’s fashion. It is important to invest in a few pairs of high-quality shoes. Choose neutral colors such as brown, black, and tan that go with most attires.
Don’t: Don’t wear sports shoes with formal or semi-formal wear. Keep your footwear comfortable and appropriate to the occasion to maintain a cohesive look.
Pick the Right Accessories
Do: The choice of accessories can make or break an outfit. A stylish watch, sunglasses, and belts can elevate your personality to a great extent.
Don’t: Don’t overly load yourself with accessories. Too much jewelry or too many accessories can distract from the overall outfit and make it look overdone.
Be Mindful of the Occasion and the Season
Do: India has some extreme weather conditions on both ends. So, do not neglect the weather for fashion. The same goes for occasions. Lightweight fabrics like linen and cotton work well in scorching summer whereas wool and other heavier fabrics protect you during chilly winters.
Don’t: Never ignore the dress code or cultural norms of an event. Wearing inappropriate attire does not always indicate a distinct identity. It can be construed as disrespectful to the host.
These dos and don’ts are just the starting point and help you with some guiding principles. However, there is a lot more to it. Fashion is always evolving, and today’s experiment could be a mega trend tomorrow. Therefore, men need to constantly keep themselves updated with what works when it comes to their fashion and be ready to try new ways.
