Genesis, in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), has named Grace Ling as the recipient of the inaugural AAPI Design + Innovation Grant. Ling, along with fellow designers Andrew Kwon and Haoran Li and Siying Qu of Private Policy, participated in a competition where they created a unique fashion collection blending their Asian heritage with modernity.

Judged by industry experts including executives from Carolina Herrera and Kering Americas, Ling’s collection stood out for its fusion of innovative techniques like 3D printing with elements of Asian culture and contemporary flair.

Expressing her gratitude, Ling said, “I’m honored to receive the AAPI Innovation Grant from Genesis House and CFDA. This opportunity allows me to merge modernity, heritage, and innovation in my work, inspired by Genesis House’s ethos.”

The competition, aimed at supporting emerging AAPI fashion talent, awarded each finalist a $40,000 grant from Genesis. Ling received an additional $60,000 to further develop her collection, totaling $100,000 in grant funding.

The announcement took place at a private event at Genesis House, showcasing iconic pieces from AAPI designers. Ling’s designs, alongside those of Kwon and Private Policy, will be exhibited at Genesis House until March 3.
