Marks & Spencer (M&S) has announced a significant investment of £30 million in expanding its presence across Scotland, reinforcing its commitment to growth in the region. The investment will result in over five new store openings and expansions in cities such as Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Largs, and Linlithgow over the next 18 months.

The expansion plan includes a substantial £15 million investment in enlarging the M&S Aberdeen Union Square store, doubling its size and enhancing departments for clothing, home, and beauty to provide an inspiring and convenient shopping experience. The completion of the Aberdeen Union Square expansion is scheduled for Spring 2025, making it the fourth-largest M&S store in Scotland. The existing St Nicholas Street store will be closed, with staff on permanent contracts transferring to Union Square or nearby stores.

Additionally, the investment involves the opening of a full-line store in Dundee’s Gallagher Retail Park, set to welcome shoppers in the summer. This commitment in Scotland follows M&S’s strategy to become the leading omnichannel retailer in the UK, aiming to transition from 247 stores to 180 higher-quality, higher-productivity full-line stores selling Clothing, Home, and Food ranges.

Sacha Berendji, M&S Operations Director, expressed that this substantial investment in Scotland presents new opportunities for shoppers to access M&S’s best-ever offerings. The move aligns with M&S’s broader store rotation program and its ambition to accelerate the program’s delivery, targeting completion in three years instead of five by the fiscal year 2025/2026.
