Meesho, an e-commerce platform, witnessed a significant rise in orders from Tier 2 cities and rural areas, making up 80% of its total sales in the year 2023. Among the most sought-after categories were beauty, personal care, and home décor products. The platform catered to a whopping 14 crore shoppers throughout the year, with a notable surge in non-metro regions, reflecting the growing trend of rural India embracing online shopping.

The home décor segment saw a remarkable 60% growth, while beauty and personal care products experienced a 40% increase in sales compared to the previous year. Meesho offers a wide variety of products, including fashion, electronics, and lifestyle items, focusing on affordable retail.

Interestingly, not only are the buyers mostly from smaller towns, but around 60% of Meesho’s sellers also hail from these areas. Recent government rulings have allowed approximately 25,000 non-Goods and Service Tax registered sellers to join the platform for online retailing.

Meesho’s shopping app gained massive popularity in 2023, tallying 14.5 crore downloads, as per Data.ai. Additionally, nearly 10,000 sellers on the platform reported generating revenues surpassing Rs 1 crore.
