An elegant evening dress once worn by the late Princess Diana fetched a staggering $1.1 million at auction, shattering its estimated value by a whopping eleven times. The Los Angeles-based Julien’s Auctions confirmed this remarkable sale, stating that the black and blue ballerina-length dress was designed by Jacques Azagury and was first adorned by Diana in Florence during 1985. Subsequently, she was also photographed wearing it on a visit to Vancouver a year later.

Originally expected to fetch between $100,000 and $200,000, the dress, accompanied by a matching illustration, finally sold for $1,148,080, marking a new world record for the highest price ever paid for a dress worn by Princess Diana in an auction. Julien’s Auctions highlighted that the previous record stood at $604,800.

The stunning dress comprises a long black velvet bodice intricately embroidered with blue stars, paired with a two-tier blue organza skirt adorned with a sash and bow.

This exceptional sale was part of the “Hollywood Legends” auction, jointly organized by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), featuring various memorabilia. Additionally, a pink chiffon blouse, worn by Diana for her 1981 engagement portrait with Prince Charles and created by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, designers of Diana’s iconic wedding dress, sold for $381,000, surpassing its estimated value of $80,000 – $100,000.
