Fashion house Dior recently revealed a special collection inspired by the influential artist and
feminist icon, Niki de Saint Phalle. This collection honors the enduring connection between Dior and
Saint Phalle, which began back in 1954 when the artist modeled a Dior outfit photographed by Henry
Clarke.
Their artistic bond deepened in 1965 when the then creative director, Marc Bohan, struck up a
lasting friendship with Saint Phalle, leading to collaborations that solidified their creative alliance.
Dior’s previous tribute to her in their Spring/Summer 2018 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri now
continues in 2024 with this new capsule collection.
The collection itself draws inspiration from Saint Phalle’s incredible imagination, showcasing her art
through drawings such as ‘Tu Es Mon Dragon,’ ‘Strength,’ and ‘Foulard Zodiaque.’ It includes
revamped versions of iconic Dior pieces like the Lady Dior and the Dior Book Tote, alongside vibrant
silk squares adorned with zodiac signs.
Additionally, the collection offers a range of clothing items such as long-sleeved T-shirts, wrap-
around knits, and denim featuring striking dragon motifs as a central theme. Overall, Dior’s latest
collection pays homage to Saint Phalle’s legacy by highlighting her artistic universe in a colorful and
imaginative way.
