British luxury brand Burberry is joining forces with global resale platform Vestiaire Collective to provide customers in the UK and the US with an innovative way to trade in their pre-loved Burberry fashion items. This partnership is part of Burberry’s broader “ReBurberry” program, which focuses on circular initiatives to extend the lifespan of its products and materials. Customers will have the opportunity to trade in their pre-loved Burberry women’s outerwear and handbags via the Burberry x Vestiaire Collective platform, receiving a Burberry gift card in return, equivalent to the item’s value. To ensure authenticity and quality, all pre-loved Burberry items will go through a meticulous authentication process by Vestiaire Collective before being available for purchase worldwide.

Giorgio Belloli, Chief Digital, Customer, and Innovation Officer at Burberry, expressed the brand’s enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating that it provides customers with another avenue to give new life to their Burberry pieces. Burberry’s commitment to circular initiatives is further exemplified through their “ReBurberry” program, which includes aftercare services. The aim is for these pieces to be enjoyed and cherished for generations to come.

Burberry’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility is highlighted by the brand’s decision to donate a selection of women’s heritage trench coats to Vestiaire Collective. The proceeds from the sale of these items will be donated to Smart Works, a UK-based charity that offers interview clothing and coaching to unemployed women in need. Burberry has supported Smart Works since 2013 by donating products that align with the charity’s mission of empowering women as they seek to enter the workforce.

Fanny Moizant, Co-Founder and President of Vestiaire Collective, emphasized that the collaboration with Burberry promotes longevity and takes a significant step toward circular fashion. Vestiaire Collective’s mission revolves around supporting brands to encourage resale and offer more sustainable alternatives to their communities. This partnership aligns with the philosophy of buying less but buying better, fostering responsible consumption and extending the lifespan of fashion items.

Overall, the collaboration between Burberry and Vestiaire Collective represents a meaningful step towards more sustainable and circular fashion practices while also supporting charitable initiatives. It underscores the growing importance of second-hand and pre-loved fashion in the luxury industry, as more brands recognize the significance of responsible consumption and reducing waste.
