Amazon Fashion Welcomes New Leader as Physical Stores Make Way for E-commerce Shift

In a significant development within Amazon’s fashion landscape, Jenny Freshwater assumes the pivotal role of vice president for Amazon Fashion & Fitness, stepping in as a capable leader following the departure of the previous head, who made a strategic move to Nike. Jenny brings a wealth of experience to this role, having been an integral part of the Amazon family since 2010. Her journey within the company has seen her evolve from a vice president overseeing planning to taking the reins as vice president responsible for traffic and marketing technology in March 2021. Prior to her tenure at Amazon, she held key roles as a data architect at esteemed companies such as RealNetworks, Capital One, and T-Mobile.

This leadership transition follows closely on the heels of Nike’s strategic acquisition of Muge Erdirik Dogan, the former president of Amazon Fashion, who now assumes the role of Chief Technology Officer for the renowned American sportswear manufacturer. Muge had a remarkable sixteen-year tenure at Amazon, reaching the pinnacle of her career as the president of Amazon Fashion in 2021.

Beyond the changes in leadership, Amazon Fashion has made waves with the recent announcement of the closure of its physical stores. Launched just over a year ago, these stores introduced a unique shopping experience, allowing customers to explore and order themed and trend-based looks through a flashcode system. The physical points of sale, strategically placed in Columbus, Ohio, and Glendale, California, provided a tangible manifestation of Amazon’s foray into the fashion retail space. The decision to close these stores hints at the dynamic nature of the industry, where companies continually adapt to shifting market trends and consumer preferences.
