The 2024 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund recipient is the London-based womenswear company Chopova Lowena, according to the British Fashion Council.
Established in 2017 by Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, both graduates of Central Saint Martins, the brand has gained recognition for its skillful blend of British and Bulgarian elements, combining sporty and folklore allusions with recycled materials and deadstock textiles.
The designers who win the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund will also get access to customized business coaching and professional services, in addition to a monetary award of £150,000 to help the label’s expansion. Founded in 2008, the fund is supported by Paul Smith, Burberry, and British Vogue. Its purpose is to highlight up-and-coming designers and encourage their involvement in the UK and international fashion industry.
Erdem, Molly Goddard, Christopher Kane, Richard Quinn, Bethany Williams, 16Arlington, and Wales Bonner are among the previous winners.
Chopova Lowena receives a £150,000 prize to help with company expansion. The British Fashion Council’s chief executive, Caroline Rush, made the following comment on the 2024 winner: “We were incredibly impressed by the duo’s bold and sustainable approach to design and craftsmanship.” It’s been enjoyable to watch the brand grow over the past several years, establishing a loyal fan base and becoming somewhat of a cult.
“As Chopova Lowena begins this new phase of prosperity, I am thrilled to witness their ongoing influence and innovative ideas. Kudos to every one of the selected designers who exemplify the exceptional creative potential in the UK.” Ahluwalia, Clio Peppiatt, Knwls, Nensi Dojaka, and Stefan Cooke were on this year’s shortlist.
