Taking place at the Lecture Hall Complex (LHC) on December 22, 2024, IIT Delhi celebrated its 11th Alumni Day with the theme “Engage, Enrich, Empower: Celebration of an Emotion. “Alumni, students, and other dignitaries came together for this historic event to honor the innovative and friendly culture that characterizes the IITD community.
Dr. Kamalika Banerjee, the 2024 Alumni Day Convener, gave the introductory comments after registration and tea. The festive mood was established by the heartfelt Welcome Address given by Mr. Maneesh Jaiswal, President of the IITD Alumni Association (IITDAA). “This event is a testament to the lifelong bond between our alumni and their alma mater,” remarked Prof. Nilanjan Senroy, Dean of Alumni Relations, in reference to IIT Delhi’s accomplishments and goals. We are working together to create a bright future for the institute and society as a whole, in addition to remembering the past.
“IIT Delhi’s alumni are a shining example of how education can create leaders who drive change at every level of society,” said Mr. Dharmendra (IAS), Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government, who served as the event’s chief guest. Events like this generate the enthusiasm and ideas required for nation-building, and their contributions are felt on a worldwide scale.
“Institutions like IIT Delhi and its alumni hold the key to the future of sustainable development and energy innovation,” noted Mr. Sumant Sinha, CEO and Chairman of ReNew, in his motivational keynote address. This assembly demonstrates the strength of teamwork and collective intelligence.
Internationally recognized businessman and guest of honor Mr. Jyoti Bansal stated: “Innovation thrives in societies that embrace variety and unconventional thought. IIT Delhi and its graduates represent that ethos by pushing the envelope and creating meaningful solutions. The day’s highlights included thematic seminars. A luminary from the “Being the Change: Change-makers Building Bharat” session, Padmashri Prof. Anil Gupta, said, “The true essence of change-making lies in grassroots innovation and empathy for the underprivileged.”According to Mr. Rajesh Aggarwal (IAS), one of the other panelists, “It’s inspiring to see IIT alumni not just excelling in their fields but also contributing to societal transformation in profound ways.” Some thinking leaders, like Mr. Alok Aggarwal and Dr. Anjan Ray, were featured in “Earth 2.0: Sustainability Innovators” and expressed their perspectives on sustainability issues and creative solutions. As Mr. Aggarwal noted, “Sustainability is now a need rather than an option. The development of environmentally concerned innovators is greatly aided by IIT Delhi.
“Unconventional paths lead to extraordinary destinations and events like these encourage such journeys,” stated a special session titled “Parallel Universe: Celebrating Mavericks and Unconventionals,” which inspired members of their streams, including the world-renowned bridge player Mr. Rajeswar Tewari.
Another noteworthy event was the Startup Pitch Tank, where aspiring business owners showcased their creative concepts to a group of prominent figures in the field, including Mr. Amit Jain, the founder of CarDekho, who stated, “Entrepreneurship flourishes in ecosystems that support audacious ideas.” Such ecosystems are still fostered at IIT Delhi.
Shaan’s heartfelt performance at the Open Air Theatre (OAT) captivated the crowd as the program came to a close with a magnificent cultural spectacle. Alumni and visitors have the opportunity to rekindle memories and establish ties within the IIT Delhi community during a networking event.
